Ever other day

I plan on trying to connect with you all every other day during the business week. No guarantees though! So the last few days have been a learning experience. I want facebook, twitter, and my blog all coordinated from all three locations, for easy updating, and for connected communication.

There's no html coder inside this girl, so when I looked at creating a 'customizable' facebook page using their FBML code, I was more than clueless...oh brother, where art thou? He's in a crazy interviewing/moving/marrying process right now, so I am kinda on my own :)  I saw a great facebook page created by another photographer in San Fran that was really well done. How do I get even close to that without hiring help (again, no money yet!)? I wait, and learn, and earn to get there. That's how. The debt free way.  So more work to be done on that over time...and probably a longer time than I thought.

So secondly, after hours of learning how little I can do on my own in Facebook, I went to setup my twitter with Hootsuite. Simple right? Used to coordinate blogs, facebooks, and twitters from one simple site, you'd think it'd be a breeze. Well...only a little. The rest is uphill for me. I can understand why older generations are failing to compete with social media. I am part of the generation that created it, and I am drowning in the mess! So more work to be done learning that.....

Next, this blog. I actually want to do it regularly, but that takes a time commitment and planning. So, as soon as my Outlook gets here (another massive project I have to learn), I will be using the calendar to timeblock myself out..or plan on regulary intervals when to do certain business activities.

In the meantime, I am researching new website providers for quality, up to date, affordable, growing, adaptable sites. That's gotten interesting, as I am shocked at how much 1.5 yrs has changed the quality and widgetry of the latest and greatest sites available, which, 1.5 years is how old my current site is. It seemed so great at the time, and now seems to need so many improvements!  ShowitFast and Photobiz are really up there on the top of the list. Affordability for the buy in, regular monthly fees, and time commitment are the next hurdles to overcome with those.

Also, in the  meantime, I am reorganizing all of my digital and physical file structures. It's amazing how much safer and more efficient work flow can be when this is done. But also amazing is how garbled and conglomeratedly (not a word, I know) messy they become when I am only running a part time business and throwing files together to get things done more quickly for three years!! So...physical and digital reorganization is top priority today, all else coming in close second. Wish me luck! More later.

Hey Kelly,

I got your Facebook friend request and then was checking out your photo site and then landed on the blog. It made me laugh to see you mention Showitfast in this post, you know you are the financial planner for one of the owners right? I bet he could get you a pretty steep discount, probably like free :) Anyway, great work and glad to see you are doing more with your photo business!
